As a USCF Candidate Master and nationally ranked in the top 3% of all chess players in the U.S., Jim Mundy has over thirty years of tournament experience. As an active player, he’s a top finisher in many Georgia events. He placed in the top 10 at the World Open (U2000) and was the top American Amateur and Bronze Medalist in the 2011 FIDE Continental America’s Amateur Chess Championships. This earned him the honor of representing the USA at the FIDE Amateur World Championships, in Antalya, Turkey in October 2011.

Having a true passion for chess, he has pursued many avenues to promote our sport. He is a USCF Tournament Director, provided content as the Games Editor for the award winning GA Chess Magazine and now the online GCA magazine, helped organized GCA tournaments, and served two terms as 2nd Vice President of the GCA. He has been teaching chess in Georgia since 1998. As a highly decorated coach in the southeast, his students/teams have earned five National and more than twenty State titles.  Additionally, he annually teaches at the prestigious Emory University Castle Chess Camp.
