Georgia Player Results for National K-12 Scholastic Tournament

By Tricia Hill

The 2014 National K-12 Scholastic Championship was held at the beautiful Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida December 12-14. Players from 39 states attended with 52 of those players from Georgia. Although the weekend started cool, by Sunday players and parents were outside tossing balls and swimming in the pool (which, yes, was heated!).

Georgia Chess Association’s President, Fun Fong, provided TD leadership in the main tournament hall, moving throughout sections 2nd grade to 5th grade. Additionally, he was given the opportunity to “wear the green vest” and be the Chief TD of the Family and Friends Tournament. It’s encouraging for Georgia chess to see strong leadership from Georgia at the national level!

One Response to Georgia Player Results for National K-12 Scholastic Tournament

  1. I think many of our players can and need be recognized for higher placement than you listed.
    Our 3 Kindergarten players:
Siddharth Manikandan – 5th place finish with 5.0/7.0
Archer Quinn Watson – 6th place finish with 5.0/7.0
Varun Gadi – 11th place finish with 5.0/7.0

all 3 really tied for 4th place — the trophies are awarded on a tie break system.

I would like to recognize them for achievement not by the luck of tiebreaks.

    Steve
