Holiday Chess Camps for Kids

By Laura Doman

Your kids love holiday shopping, right? And you just can’t wait to hear another sing-song chorus of “I’m bored!” No? Well then, you and your kids need to check out these chess camps designed to challenge scholastic players with quality instruction, fun competition, and an opportunity to flex their mental and physical muscles.

Championship Chess is hosting an all-day chess camp in Decatur, GA on November 28, the Friday after Thanksgiving. A pizza lunch will be included and advance registrants also receive a free t-shirt. Special pricing is extended to players who also compete in their 4th Annual Championship Chess K-12 Thanksgiving Classic tournament on Saturday, November 29. Information and registration for both the camp and the tournament can be found at the Championship Chess website: www.championshipchess.net.

If your child enjoys building with legos and would like to learn a little tennis, then the Tri-Fun Camp may be what you’re looking for! Smyrna Chess, Kidz Tennis, and Bricks 4 Kids are teaming up to offer three activities within a one day camp format. The Tri-Fun Camp is based in Buckhead (Atlanta, GA) and is offered on multiple days during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays. For information, email chess coach Ben Johnson at smyrnachess@yahoo.com.  Registration is available at www.kidztennis.com.

Happy holidays!
